Jimmy Joe Long

Me and the Devil Blues, played behind the head. Jimmy Joe Long

Hearing a live band on a Monday night?  That doesn’t happen that often but last night, my friend Jimmy Joe Long played at an ice house up in Conroe until midnight.

Jimmy is a great guitar player and has been playing roadside joints like this for many years.  He plays for the fun of it.  He’s got several places on-line where you can learn more about Jimmy, but probably the place to keep up to date is to follow him on Facebook:  Jimmy Joe Long

Every time that I go visit Jimmy, he does me the greatest honor by playing what I believe is his best song.  It’s a Robert Johnson song called Me and the Devil Blues. When he plays it, it comes from deep within his soul. That music just radiates out across the room where it knocks me right in the chest.  It stirs something inside me and it remains one of my all time favorite songs by any artist or any band EVER.

This is a video I took last night on my iPhone.  It is a horrible recording and horrible video due to the fact that I haven’t gotten the upgraded iPhone yet, but….it’s worth a million bucks to me.  I’d like to share it anyway.

Here’s Jimmy with a couple new guys he’s been playing with lately. (There is an audio flaw in the recording near the end, so we miss a few seconds of Jimmy closing the song out.)
