Red Bull BC One North American Finals – Houston, Texas

IMG_5399Saturday night, August 17th, our friend Amanda invited about 30 of us dancers to The Warehouse Live for the Red Bull BC One North American Finals dance competition. The winner gets to go to Korea for the World Finals.

We all thought it was a hip-hop dance event. Turns out, it was breakdancing. We had a blast watching a form of dance that will wear out your joints, sprain your back, twist your elbows, bruise your shoulders and make you sweat off about 20 pounds in less than 45 minutes. Other than that, I’d like to try it again.

Actually, I’d like to say that I’m sure I helped introduce this form of dancing back in the late 1960’s where me and my buddies used to drop to the floor and squirm all around in a purple haze stupor of drunken spasms – calling it the ‘Gator’ or ‘Funky Chicken’ or something like that. These dudes have taken it to ‘ a whole nutha’ level’ !

The MC was fun to listen to. His best line of the night was, “It don’t mattuh where you from. It mattuhz where you at!”

Here’s the link to the Red Bull BC One site with the full hour and half show. Below are a few shots I took with my iPhone.
