Texas Roadhouse blues is alive and well and Jimmy Joe Long is cranking the blues out in good old Texas fashion. These are the places that only the die-hard blues players hit – the ice houses, the biker joints, the backwoods converted pool halls. Although the money is at the city blues joints, these dive joints are what makes living in Texas so rich with music. This isn’t a bad garage band of would-be classic rockers. These are practiced, skilled musicians who play the blues for beer and tips. Yet, this Backwoods Saloon is located less than a mile from The Woodlands just off of FM1488 near Conroe, Texas.
Last night, I got me some of that deep down, soul satisfaction with Jimmy’s playing – everything from Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry to Robert Johnson and Stevie Ray. They even snuck a Talking heads tune in! Superb guitar playing, cowboy hats and crazy drunken, barefoot dancers.
I love Texas and I love me some Jimmy Joe Long blues!
