Leaving Her Body

There is this moment – and it doesn’t happen all the time- but there is this moment in a dance where the music, well – the music actually becomes the air.  And there’s a time when touch, well – touch is better felt not by the skin but rather through the eyes. In that moment, there is no longer a ‘you’ or a ‘me’. There is no skin nor floor, nor song or light.  All things become one. It might last for a while or it might go quickly. But you know the precise moment when it happens because that’s when you dance beyond who and what you are and you realize that you have gone outside of yourself. You are no longer within the confines of your body.  You have left your body.  The two of you and the music.  Not three separate things but one surprisingly limitless thing. Not earthly but rather, it becomes spiritual. Every once in a while, it happens. The right person.  The right music. The right time.  It’s never certain. It comes and it goes then you smile and hug and…perhaps hold each other a bit longer or a bit tighter before letting go. But one thing I’m sure of – you’ll never, ever forget that moment when you left your body…. and danced.
